Having spent the last few years capturing the changing landscape around this part of Paisley, the transformation is becoming increasingly visible, with the latest milestone seeing the arch of the new bridge across Paisley Harbour completed over recent weeks.
The £59 million AMIDS South project is set to create a new transport link between Paisley town centre, the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS) and Glasgow Airport, bringing significant changes to an area that has been undergoing a major transformation.
The new bridge is one of the most prominent features of the development, with its completed arch marking another important stage in the construction work. Having photographed the area over the past few years, it has been interesting to document the progress and watch the new structure gradually take shape.
The project, led by Renfrewshire Council, is designed to improve connectivity between Paisley and the wider economic area around Glasgow Airport and Inchinnan.

Plans include a new road bridge across Paisley Harbour, a 1.7-kilometre gateway route running alongside the White Cart River, and a network of road, cycling and walking links connecting the town centre’s railway station and bus interchange with AMIDS, Glasgow Airport and Inchinnan.
Funding for the project includes £38.7 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund, alongside a further £18.8 million committed by Renfrewshire Council.
As construction continues, the scale of the development is becoming much clearer, with the bridge set to form a key part of the new route and reshape how people travel between Paisley and the surrounding area.
For those of us documenting Paisley’s changing landscape, projects such as this provide a fascinating record of how the town and its surroundings are evolving. The photographs captured over the past few years will also help preserve a visual record of the area before, during and after this major development.
Have you been following the transformation around Paisley Harbour, and what difference do you think the new bridge and riverside route will make to Paisley?
