A new Lidl supermarket could be coming to Paisley after plans were unveiled for a store on the former St James Business Park site on Linwood Road.
The discount retailer is seeking to purchase the vacant 1.1-hectare brownfield site, which was previously occupied by the St James Business Park building before it was cleared.
The proposed development would see a modern foodstore built with a glazed frontage, landscaped surroundings and a 116-space customer car park.
Access to the supermarket would be taken from East Avenue, with the existing Wendy’s drive-thru car park reconfigured to provide entry into the Lidl site. Despite the changes, the number of parking spaces available for Wendy’s customers would remain unchanged.

The new store would have a gross internal floor area of 2,206 square metres, including a net sales area of 1,529 square metres.
Plans include six accessible parking spaces, nine parent-and-child bays and two electric vehicle charging spaces.

If approved, the supermarket would be open daily between 8am and 10pm.
Lidl says the store would typically receive one delivery each day, with waste collected by the same delivery vehicle to help minimise heavy goods vehicle movements to and from the site.
The retailer says the development would improve shopping choice in the area by introducing a new discount supermarket and would include an in-store bakery. The proposal would also create new employment opportunities for local residents, with Lidl stating it pays all eligible employees the Living Wage Foundation rate and does not use zero-hours contracts.
The site is bounded by Linwood Road to the north, commercial units to the south and west, and Wendy’s and East Avenue to the east.
The proposal forms part of Lidl’s plans to expand its presence in Renfrewshire by bringing a new supermarket to a long-vacant brownfield site. A planning application is expected to follow after the pre-application consultation process.
