Filming Underway on Rebus Series Two as Linwood Location Transformed into “The Covenant”

Filming is currently underway at the former LWRSC site in Linwood, Renfrewshire, as production continues on the highly anticipated second series of Rebus.

For today’s shoot, the location has been transformed into a fictional setting known as The Covenant, with Richard Rankin returning to the lead role of Detective John Rebus in the acclaimed BBC crime drama.

Producer Angela Murray speaking earlier on set said Produced by Eleventh Hour Films, the new six-part series is filming in and around Edinburgh and Glasgow over the coming months and is scheduled to premiere on BBC iPlayer, BBC One and BBC Scotland in 2027

A host of new cast members have joined the production for series two, including John Michie (Karen PirieRidley), Stephen McCole (ShetlandVigil), Emily Barber (The WayfindersMobland), Lorne MacFadyen (StarstruckOperation Mincemeat), Conor Berry (VigilKaren Pirie), Ivan Ivashkin (The CaptureBloods), Olga Safronova (The FatiguedSecond Spring), Douglas Russell (AdolescenceDepartment Q), Alexis Rodney (Death In ParadiseMix Tape), Reece Montague (The Primrose Railway Children) and Joshua Haynes (CrimeGranite Harbour).

They join returning cast members Brian Ferguson as Michael Rebus, Lucie Shorthouse as DC Siobhan Clarke, Amy Manson as Rhona Moncrieffe, Neshla Caplan as Chrissie Rebus, Stuart Bowman as Ger Cafferty, Noof Ousellam as Darryl Christie, Thoren Ferguson as Malcolm Fox, Mia McKenzie as Sammy Rebus, Andrew John Tait as Neil MacKenzie and Cassidy Little as Cammy.

Written by Gregory Burke and based on the bestselling novels by Ian Rankin, the second series will continue to explore the complex world of Detective Rebus. According to the BBC, the new episodes will examine the links between violent criminals and the professional worlds of law and finance, where even police officers can find themselves out of their depth.

Speaking about his return to the role, Richard Rankin said there was a real sense of excitement about stepping back into Rebus’ world and reuniting with the cast and crew from the first series. He also praised the new additions to the cast, noting the energy and depth they are already bringing to the production.

Rankin added that Rebus remains a fascinating character to portray, describing him as fiercely driven, deeply flawed and constantly at war with himself, with many layers still left to explore.

The first series of Rebus, which launched on BBC iPlayer in 2024, was a major success with audiences and critics alike. Its debut episode attracted 6.3 million viewers across all platforms and the drama went on to win three RTS Scotland Awards for Best Drama, Writer and Director.

The series forms part of a growing slate of major BBC dramas produced in Scotland and joins titles including ShetlandVigilGranite HarbourCounselsHalf ManMintSutherlandThe Young Team and Grams.Series two of Rebus is produced by Eleventh Hour Films for BBC iPlayer, BBC Scotland and BBC One. The production was commissioned by Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, and Louise Thornton, Head of Commissioning for BBC Scotland. Niall MacCormick directs all six episodes, with Angela Murray serving as producer. International distribution is handled by Sony Pictures Television.
