As of 9 March 2026, the electorates in the specified areas include Paisley (60,383), Renfrewshire North and Cardonald (64,962), and Renfrewshire West and Levern Valley (62,764). The total electorate for the West Scotland region is 595,728, with 111,220 postal votes applied for across all areas.

So how does the count process work

The verification process begins with enumerators counting the ballot papers from each polling station to ensure they match the numbers issued. After verification, the Returning Officer announces the total votes and percentage turnout. Votes for each candidate are then counted, allowing candidates and their agents to observe and challenge disputed ballots. The Returning Officer shares provisional results, though they may refuse recount requests deemed unreasonable. Once votes are confirmed, the candidate with the most votes is declared the elected Member of the Scottish Parliament for each of Renfrewshire’s constituencies, with similar procedures applied to the West Scotland Region ballot.
